To live a life as a consistently successful, working musician takes creativity, bravery, and a lot of grit. Aimee Mann may have the voice of a sweet songbird, but she was never willing to have her wings clipped. Maybe that’s why she’s consistently creating, surfacing to the general public in moments of glory, like her shining presence on the “Magnolia” soundtrack in 1999 or her Grammy Award-winning folk album in 2018.

Storytelling through song is a quintessential feature of the folk genre, and maybe that’s why, when she released “Mental Illness,” her ninth studio album, in 2017, it was nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album. In 2018, she won. And still, she returns to her steady work. Writing, processing, practicing. When she comes to Canoe Place Inn in Hampton Bays this summer, she’ll be sharing her unique, unadulterated view of the world in the best way she knows how — through her original music that speaks for itself.

Aimee Mann will play at Canoe Place Inn in Hampton Bays on Thursday, June 12, at 8 p.m.

Keep Reading at 27 East

Graham Nash tickets are all gone — sorry. But Rufus Wainwright says it feels like coming home. And Mark Normand bragged to his Instagram followers he had so much “fun” he couldn’t wait to come back. Where? Canoe Place Inn and Cottages in Hampton Bays. General Manager Matthew Kristan is happy but not surprised that a venue famous for the arts is drawing this kind of crowd. “There really is something for everyone from comedy to classic rock and reggae,” he said. “The feedback was so positive right after we announced the summer series,” he added.

That’s an understatement. They’ve added new shows and continue to do so. It’s thanks in part to a ballroom steeped in history, newly fitted with state-of-the-art lighting and equipment. “Artists are excited to play in a room where the acoustics are great,” said Brian Kelly. His New York City-based Murmrr Presents books the acts. He’s also brought other big names out for charitable events like the benefit for the Montauk Point Lighthouse. “The ballroom has been professionally ‘tuned’ and it sounds amazing. It’s a ‘Lamborghini off the lot’ in terms of sound systems. There’s no other place out here that has anything like it.”

When the crowds thin and the ocean air turns crisp, the East End reveals a quieter, more contemplative beauty. Winter in the Hamptons invites you to slow down and savor cozy fireside moments, serene coastal walks, and the charm of a landscape at rest—offering a peaceful counterpoint to its sun-soaked summer rhythm.

Winter Beach Walks

  • Sure, it’s too cold for swimming (aside from a few local polar plunges), but winter beach walks can be incredibly serene. Perfect to reflection and solitude. From Coopers Beach, East Hampton Main Beach, all the way to Montauk’s Ditch Plains you’ll take in breathtaking views of the ocean and dramatic winter skies. Privacy assured.

Sounds and Sights

The Hamptons are home to many galleries and art museums, and winter is a great time to explore them without the summer crowds. Check out:

  • Canoe Place Inn and Cottages Live Music, Comedy and ongoing live music and dining experiences
  • The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, which has a great collection of American art and often hosts special exhibitions and events.
  • Guild Hall in East Hampton, known for its cultural programming and art exhibits, including contemporary works.
  • The Drawing Room in East Hampton, which showcases both modern and classic pieces.

Magical Montauk

  • At the easternmost point of Long Island, legendary and usually lively Montauk is a peaceful destination in winter. With summer pop ups closed for the season, you can still enjoy the beauty of Montauk Point State Park and Montauk Lighthouse. In fact the lighthouse is festively decorated like a giant “tree” and acts as a  beacon for holiday memories.

Winter Sports

  • Many of the town ponds freeze over creating a winter wonderland. And there are trails for hiking or skiing. Why not try:
    • Ice Skating: You can often find outdoor ice skating rinks set up in East Hampton or Southampton during the winter months.
    • Cross-Country Skiing or Snowshoeing: In the right conditions, you can explore nature preserves and trails, like those at Quogue Wildlife Preserve, Southampton’s Agawam Park or Cedar Point County Park, on skis or snowshoes.
    • We can find the charter companies offering winter fishing experiences in the Hamptons. Cold weather  species like striped bass are still available, and the experience can be serene and rewarding in the quiet off-season.

“Cheers” to our Wineries and Distilleries

    • Taste our local wineries, breweries and distilleries in cozy often fireside settings. Some popular spots:
      • Main and Mill Tasting Room in nearby Jamesport introduces you to the North Fork.
      • Long Island Farm Brewery located in a former potato barn with a  tasting room and brewhouse reminiscent of Long Island’s farming past. Situated on the east end of Long Island next to Waterdrinker Family Farm in Manorville and now in Riverhead.
  • Westhampton Beach Brewing Company is hidden away from most of the public in a warehouse district in Westhampton. Don’t worry, we’ll show you the way.
    • Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack offers a beautiful tasting room and delicious wines. It’s not just ‘Summer in a Bottle’ anymore!
    • Channing Daughters Winery in Bridgehampton offers wines made from grapes grown on the South Fork, with a charming winter ambiance.
    • Montauk Distillery offers a taste of local spirits like rum and vodka, often served in a cozy, intimate setting.

Memorable Meals

  • Many top-tier restaurants remain open in the winter months, and some even offer seasonal menus that feature hearty, comfort food perfect for colder weather. Consider dining at:
    • Good Ground Tavern is our own world class dining experience curated by Union Square’s own Danny Meyer. We’d love to have you but admit there are other choices. How will you know we’re the best unless you try them?
    • Nick & Toni’s in East Hampton, known for its excellent seasonal menu and cozy ambiance.
    • The 1770 House in East Hampton, which is famous for its historic charm and upscale American cuisine.
    • The Lobster Roll in Amagansett, offering fresh seafood in a laid-back setting, often open for lunch during winter weekends.

Shopping Sprees

  • The Hamptons is home to some unique boutique shopping, and winter is a great time to find locally-made gifts, clothing, and home decor. Browse shops like:
    • The East Hampton Village shops for fashion, art, and home decor.
    • Southampton’s Main Street, which offers a mix of high-end stores and more casual, quirky shops.

Ways To Wellness

  • The Hamptons are known for their luxurious spas and wellness retreats, and a winter spa day can be just what you need to relax. Consider visiting SommetBeauty at Canoe Place Inn and Cottages. Other options include:
  • Nauturopathica in East Hampton
  • Gurney’s Inn near Montauk

Hit The Roads

  • Imagine the Hamptons when you can actually drive around without traffic. That’s one of the great pleasures of the winter out east. Quiet streets and coastal roads offer picturesque winter scenery. Drive along the South Fork or North Fork to enjoy the wintery landscapes, from quaint villages to expansive vineyards, and stop at a local café or bakery for a warm drink.

A Cozy Inn That’s The Place To Be

  • Winter in the Hamptons is an excellent time to escape the hustle and bustle and relax in one of the many boutique hotels or inns. Canoe Place Inn & Cottages in Hampton Bays is a luxurious option. From our charming Inn to property cottage and waterfront residences across the canal with up to three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and of course a fireplace.

The Hamptons in winter offer a calm, more introspective version of its lively summer self, with plenty of cozy experiences and opportunities for outdoor enjoyment in a peaceful, picturesque setting. And it all starts in one of the only Inns and Cottage experiences open all year long.

Furthermore, the museum’s gorgeous setting, surrounded by meadows and walking trails, invites peaceful contemplation—or just a chance to stretch your legs—with the changing leaves as a beautiful backdrop.

Fall Festivals and Fairs

SouthamptonFest, hosted in early October each year, features two days of live performances, local food vendors, and fun, family-friendly activities like a children’s scavenger hunt. A beloved part of fall in the Hamptons, this festival showcases some of the best in Southampton’s traditions and local creativity.

Hiking in Shadmoor State Park

Cooler temperatures offer a great opportunity to take some hikes and explore the Hamptons’ natural beauty. Shadmoor State Park in Montauk, with its scenic bluffs, ocean views, and tranquil trails, is a peaceful environment of 99 acres, including 2,400 feet of Atlantic Ocean shoreline.

So pack your sweaters and walking shoes and escape to the Hamptons this autumn for a weekend of wine tasting, pumpkin picking, festival-going, and seaside hiking. The best of the Hamptons in fall is best enjoyed with Canoe Place Inn as your luxurious and cozy home base.

As the warmth of summer gives way to cooler breezes, the music on Long Island doesn’t stop, with vibrant performances continuing into September, October, and November. This fall, Canoe Place Inn & Cottages in Hampton Bays continues to shine as a cultural hub with its Front Row series, offering a haven for music lovers. But it’s not the only place to experience the magic of live music on Long Island—year-round!

At Canoe Place, the Front Row series continues into the fall after a summer filled with stellar performances featuring the likes of Jeff Goldblum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. On September 16, the enchanting Cyrille Aimee is set to dazzle with her soulful jazz performance, adding another unforgettable night to the season. Guests staying at Canoe Place can immerse themselves fully and add dinner at the Good Ground Tavern and drinks at the Tavern bar to the itinerary before and after the concert.
